What I Shed Today

lightening up a little at a time

dead heating pad

on January 6, 2014

Today we shed our heating pad.

Nimue’s shoulder was sore, perhaps from long hours of confinement during travel over the holidays. She hoped heat might loosen tight muscles. The pad’s “on” light glowed when it was plugged in, but it wouldn’t warm.

Stuff like this is BER (= Beyond Economic Repair) when it breaks. I don’t know why it wasn’t designed to last longer … we got it only 20 or so years ago. (Actually, I do know why, and someday I will rant my anti-planned obsolescence rant, but today I’ll spare us all. Especially since lasting 20 years wasn’t that bad for a product that uses electrical resistance to generate heat.)
