What I Shed Today

lightening up a little at a time

unused holiday decorations

on January 10, 2014

It’s well after Twelfth Night and time to move on: today we shed fourteen winter solstice/Christmas/New Year’s/winter-holiday-of-choice decorations. One was a dead string of lights, which Lowe’s accepts for recycling. The rest were clean, working, and tasteful (with the possible exception of the Santa refrigerator magnets), but fail the Morris Rule which we’ve re-affirmed with such fervor. I took them to Goodwill.

This betters my balance according to the “one in, two out” rule of shedding. Most of our Christmas spoil came in the form of yummy consumables (thank you, loved ones), but a handful of new possessions crossed the threshold. Also, Nimue accepted her portion of the family crystal. And I picked up two flat sheets at thrift stores this week … the one we suspect won’t fit the mattress may see use as a drop cloth when we start painting. I’m still in the red in my account, by how much I’ll have to figure, but I’m catching up in the game.

shedding styles: recycle, give away
destinations: business recycling program, thrift store

Comments welcome … what might you shed today?
