What I Shed Today

lightening up a little at a time

CVS is shedding tobacco. The United States’ second-largest pharmacy chain will forgo an estimated $2 billion in sales, but CVS Caremark Corporation executives say “This is the right thing to do.” (I agree, and will back it up with my custom.)

The southeastern US is trying to shed winter. Daffodils have braved the lingering chill to lift themselves above the leaf litter in our woods.

Daffodils coming on!

Daffodils coming on!

Those are big sheds. But all I shed was this urn.

Billions of fossilized plankton gave their lives to become this urn.

Billions of fossilized plankton gave their lives to become this urn.

For more I yearn—indeed, I burn! But still I learn, with just an urn, a shed I earn.

I have a friend with a gift for growing houseplants. He must secretly be a Green Man; under his care, plants double or triple in size and strength overnight. He’s always looking for another container to pot up one of his progeny. I’ll give him the urn, and perhaps it will provide a botanical child a home.

shedding style: give away
destination: a sunny window

Comments welcome … what might you shed today?
