What I Shed Today

lightening up a little at a time

staying up late

on March 12, 2014

Despite what I declare here, doubtless I will again, by choice or necessity, miss my bedtime. But tonight I’d like to shed staying up late. Put another way, I’d like to outgrow the notion that to sleep is to somehow fail to squeeze the most I can out of my day and myself. The mature truth is: I need my dreams so I know what I’m awake for, need to rest tonight so tomorrow I may run through the beautiful, sometimes terrible, always completely engaging world.

I so completely and utterly relate to this post. It’s rare for me to get much more than six hours of sleep–and I tell myself that I do “fine” on five. But there is absolutely a cumulative effect! Yes, like all other diurnal mammals, I need to sleep.

  2. I love the way you put this. I hate to go to bed.
